Our school is a bright, open building. We have ten classrooms, each named after a wild creature we might find locally. Every classroom is equipped wiith an interactive whiteboard and children have access to PC's in our new ICT Suite, laptop and Ipads computers for all aspects of their learning throughout the week.
Merley First School is a member of the Wimborne Academy Trust and is situated in Merley, about one mile from the centre of Wimborne.
We are open from 8.45 in the morning and school starts at 9.00. The end of the afternoon session for the children is at 3.15pm.
The classrooms lead from broad corridor spaces containing shared computer suites, role play areas, bookcases and work stations. At the centre of the school is our hall, used for assemblies, physical education and performances.
Our wooded nature area provides a wonderful outdoor classoom containing ponds for pond dipping, trails through the trees and a circle of log seats for special story times.
We have links with other schools both in this country and overseas and are aiming for International School status.
Indoors and outdoors, we enjoy learning at Merley First School.
Outdoors we have four playgrounds which include quiet garden areas as well as plenty of space to run around. We have large fields bounded by trees giving fabulous open play spaces in the dry months of the year. The timber play trail is very popular at play times, lunchtimes and throughout the day.
We are a Rights Respecting Schools (UNICEF) and the principle that each of us has rights and responsibilities underpins life at Merley. We have a school charter and each class has their own class charter.
We have a School Travel Plan and encourage pupils and parents to walk to school where possible or park a little way from the school and walk the last bit. This way we can:
- Reduce carbon use and pollution
- Reduce traffic congestion around the school
- Increase our physical activity and have a brighter start to the day
