I feel privileged to have been Headteacher at Merley First School since 2004 and to have the good fortune to work with a team of very skilled staff to provide the best possible start to school life for our four to nine year-old children. Ours is a friendly, welcoming and  caring community where enthusiastic learning takes place. We achieve both high academic standards and a happy, creative environment. Learning at Merley is fun and our young learners are supported to develop independence, co-operation, creativity and respect. Our curriculum is exciting and provides many memorable experiences for the children and opportunities for them to make links in their learning within interesting topics.
We are very lucky to have light, spacious classrooms and exceptionally large and pleasant school grounds. Learning outdoors is an important aspect of life at Merley and we use our playgrounds, fields, wooded nature area and garden spaces fully.
We aim to work in partnership with parents and the wider community, so please feel you can get in touch. Whatever your role in our school community, I look forward to meeting you.
