Merley School Association

Welcome to the Merley School Association (MSA)

What is the MSA?

The MSA is the fundraising and social group of Merley First School. It aims to conduct events that will bring together parents, children, family, friends and the community on a social level whilst raising money for the school.

How does the MSA work?

All parents/carers of pupils at the school are automatically members of the MSA.

Historically the MSA has been run via a committee consisting of a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and other members. Alongside there has been a list of people who were “happy to help” but didn’t want to be part of the committee.

However from 2013 the MSA have decided to take a new appraoch with the emphasis more on social gatherings rather than formal meetings. This means that although we still have the “official” positions (as required legally for a charity) it means that anyone can organise and run an event (subject to approval from the school).

How can I be involved with the MSA?

There are many ways in which parents/carers can be involved and this can range from co-ordinating an event to just helping out in a small way, such as baking a cake or wrapping Christmas presents. All help is gratefully received in whatever format.

If you wish to be involved, you can come along to our next social events meetings or by sending your name and contact details to merleysa@btinternet.com

What happens to the money raised?

All monies raised by fundraising events goes to benefit the school and pupils. It aims to provide equipment and services that the school may not be able to otherwise afford.

As the government are constantly saving money and reducing school budgets, our fundraising efforts are becoming more and more important.

Examples of purchases made over recent years include the outdoor musical instruments, a peer mediation hut, IT / audio equipment and canopies outside of Reception & Year 1 classrooms to allow outdoor working throughout the year.   The MSA also provides funding for school trips, gifts at Christmas for all school children and for school leavers when they move onto Middle School.
